Phil Wharam

Phil is celebrating fifty years behind the decks in 2025 and is delighted to have joined the ranks of CCR. It’s a new departure being on the airwaves in the Home of Radio and one he is relishing.

He’s a rugby loving Cardiff boy with family hailing from all over the British Isles but settled here in Chelmsford around twenty years ago and is now a proud supporter of Essex Cricket and Chelmsford City FC. You will find him playing House, Trance and Techno music in the clubs and bars of our city and it is this genre he is bringing to his show on Wednesday nights. He describes himself as a little late to the Ibiza groove he now loves, just twelve years since his first trip to the White Island. There is enormous synergy between our county and the party island and it is said you are never more than six feet from an Essex local when wandering the quaint streets of San Antonio and Eivissa town. Phil is going to be bringing new tracks every week from local EDM producers, unsigned acts and the very latest tunes echoing around the dancefloors of the world. There’ll be guests too and a guide to local house music events.

Phil’s a psychotherapeutic counsellor and life coach by day and his specialism is Men’s Mental Health, a subject he is very passionate about. His #MenDontTalk campaign was launched in 2025.

With a history background and strong family connections to East Anglia in WW2, he is looking forward to exploring Chelmsford’s past via the medium of our wonderful local radio station.

His music taste is as broad as his grin, encompassing West Coast ‘70s rock, soul, disco, reggae and anything which gets his feet tapping. He’s played sax, guitar and percussion in a succession of bands both local and further afield and loves to sing harmony vocals. (You can take the boy out of Wales…)

With a background in the wine trade, anything vinous still flows in his blood and he is active in his beloved Chelmsford Club, running local wine tasting groups and writing matters wine in The Moulsham Times each month.
