About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides, and you could hear it. This was Girlguiding Essex North East’s own programme: Maxine J in the chair, and a rotating crew of young co-hosts from units across the county. They talked about guiding life, swapped community stories, and got politicians and celebrities to sit still for a chat. For more than a decade the microphone belonged to the Guides.
It started on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon on 3 May 2009. That station has since closed. The on-air seventh birthday landed on 1 May 2016, which is how the Saint FM years add up to 71 editions, the last of them on 1 March 2015. Gene then moved to Chelmsford Community Radio, first Sunday of the month, beginning 5 April 2015 and running until 2 August 2026: 137 editions on CCR, and 133 editions still in the listen-again Jukebox archive. The show has now ended.
