The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, aired on 5th April 2026. This edition focused on Easter and Spring, exploring traditions and activities. The programme provided updates on various Girlguiding activities and events, sharing what the girls have been doing in Guiding.
This edition highlighted girls earning their photography badge and discussed visits to units for special evenings. Maxine shared plans for upcoming travels to gather new Guiding content, including meeting Canadian gold guides. Lily spoke about her Guiding activities. The programme also featured news from the third Witham Scout Hut and Guide Group, promoting their young leader development programme and a STEM careers webinar. Listeners were encouraged to check the Girlguiding Essex North East county calendar for events. Activities like making nature bracelets, gardening, and bird feeders were suggested, alongside a camp story.

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
