The Gene Radio Show's January 2026 edition was presented by Maxine, joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The programme explored various guiding topics, with a particular focus on international guiding and the upcoming World Thinking Day celebrations.

The episode featured discussions on international guiding, including a trip to India visiting Sangam, Pune, and Kerala. Girls were encouraged to work on badges, such as fundraising and special World Thinking Day badges. The programme also highlighted Girlguiding Essex North East's County Commissioners, a county trip for under 17s, and the importance of units. A major focus was the upcoming World Thinking Day on 22nd February, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, with plans for a special show.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
