The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 November 2025
The November edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine, joined in the studio by Lily, Karis, and Fair. The programme explored the diverse activities and opportunities within Girlguiding, from adventurous camps and sports to celebrating achievements. Listeners heard about encouraging girls to explore leadership roles, engage with democracy, and understand community involvement.
Highlights included a Brownie and Rangers group enjoying rugby, and the Fifth Braintree Guides' four-day indoor Halloween residential with campfires. Girlguiding Essex North East celebrated at a venue in Manchester, where they met the Chief Guide. The show also highlighted the 100 Years of World Thinking Day challenge, offering activities linked to guiding history, and featured Kirstie Murphy, the first female pilot in the Red Arrows, as a guest.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
