The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 September 2025
The September 2025 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine alongside girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, including Paris. The programme was filled with exciting Girlguiding news, highlighting international adventures, the launch of many new interest badges, and updates from across the county.
Listeners learned about a 10-night international trip to Morocco and a team-building trip to London. There was also discussion about the 18 new Rangers, 24 Guides, 18 Brownies, and 12 Rainbow interest badges, such as the Fandom's badge and the My Say badge. County guiding news covered selection days, an Inspire event, Chelmsford's County Country Calling Festival, and Essex North East launching a new County Commissioner's unit.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
