The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 6 July 2025

The July edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine and the Girlguiding team, explored the busy summer activities of Guiding. The programme highlighted the importance of environmental awareness within Guiding, with a particular focus on plastic-free initiatives. Discussions covered everyday choices like plastic-free packaging and wooden alternatives, alongside the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, all leading into the Girlguiding Eco Award.

The show celebrated various Guiding activities, including a Brownie group's camp and plans for international trips, with one group heading to Morocco. There was excitement for upcoming events like the 'best county camp ever' and 'energy burst camp'. The Third-Molden Rainbows were congratulated for completing their new Eco Award at a campsite. A shoutout was also given to Gael, a leader in the county.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
