The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 6 April 2025
The April 2025 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, focused on sports. The team discussed their favourite sports, with a particular emphasis on women's sports. The programme highlighted the involvement of Girlguiding in various sporting activities and opportunities.
The show featured a guest from Essex County Cricket in the Community, Lauren, who spoke about women's cricket in the county and a smashing boundaries badge available to all. Listeners were encouraged to download details from the county website. Specific guiding activities mentioned included the upcoming county camp. The team also shared updates from Girlguiding Essex North East and Anglia Facebook pages, noting the many girls' clubs and opportunities across the county.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
