The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 July 2024
Maxine presented The Gene Radio Show, joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The programme discussed various unit activities, including colourful picnics and excitement for the jamboree. Guides were heard working on skills builders and making playlists. Brownies enjoyed camp songs around a fire, while Rainbows looked forward to upcoming rainbow picnics, with one unit having already held a coloured picnic.
The show also celebrated Girlguiding's presence at Essex Pride. A quiz featured questions about the water adventure badge and Girlguiding's offer for women aged 18 to 30, with a guest joining to help. Maxine's involvement with the jamboree was also noted.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
