The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 June 2024
The Gene Radio Show for June 2024 was presented by Maxine, joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. This edition covered a wide range of Girlguiding topics, including current news regarding activity centres, recruitment for volunteers, and upcoming events, highlighting the diverse opportunities available within the movement across Essex North East.
The episode featured discussions about specific badges, including a cricket and community badge. Listeners heard about the Essex International Jamboree, with details on "EIG in a day" events scheduled for late July and early August. Brownie units like First Gallywood Brownies and another Brownie unit were mentioned, along with a girl named Grace sharing her PGL experience. The show also touched on plans for World Thinking Day 2025 and Garden Wildlife Week.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
