Listeners heard about upcoming badges, including a colourful Earth Day badge and two badges for the Essex challenge at the Essex Jamboree. There were updates on British guiding in overseas territories, with Girl Guiding North West England taking over these areas. Maxine also shared news about Thinking Day 2025 from Girl Guiding Anglia, and an amazing celebration of guiding and scouting, the Essex Jamboree, which will offer challenges and scavenger hunts for all sections.

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
