The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 4 February 2024
The February edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine, and featured a Brownie discussing their activities. The programme focused on World Thinking Day, a significant international event for Girlguiding, and included a Thinking Day quiz. There was also a strong emphasis on the Trefoil Guild, encouraging adults to reconnect with guiding.
The show highlighted several guiding initiatives. Lindsay discussed the "Beat The Streets" programme, an initiative to get communities active. Rosina spoke about the "Girlguiding Inspired Essex" Instagram pages. A new challenge, "Mary's Memories", created by Brownie leader Kate, was introduced, honouring a leader from First Motion Lodge Brownies. Listeners also heard about a county meal.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
