The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 January 2024
The January edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine and the Girl Guiding Team, looked ahead to the guiding year of 2024. The team discussed upcoming activities and events across the county and region, with a particular focus on the many badges available for members throughout the year.
The show highlighted several badges, including a Happy Christmas from Girl Guiding badge, a UK Parliament Week 2023 badge, and an Earth Day badge for activity completion. Badges were also mentioned for signing up for initiatives and donating to local food banks. Maxine spoke about sorting her camp blankets and celebrating Burns Night with her Guides. The county took over a theatre for an Aladdin show. Upcoming events like Thinking Day and International Women's Day were discussed, alongside a food donation 'lend a hand' activity and an online course for ages 7+.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
