The December edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, was a festive Christmas special. Recorded early in the month, this programme brought together girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. They joined Maxine to celebrate the season, sharing in the festive spirit of Girlguiding.

Listeners enjoyed a programme filled with Christmas music, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. A special Gene Quiz was also featured, inviting everyone to grab pens and paper and join in the fun. This edition offered a wonderful way for Girlguiding members and listeners alike to celebrate the Christmas period.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides, and you could hear it. This was Girlguiding Essex North East’s own programme: Maxine J in the chair, and a rotating crew of young co-hosts from units across the county. They talked about guiding life, swapped community stories, and got politicians and celebrities to sit still for a chat. For more than a decade the microphone belonged to the Guides.

It started on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon on 3 May 2009. That station has since closed. The on-air seventh birthday landed on 1 May 2016, which is how the Saint FM years add up to 71 editions, the last of them on 1 March 2015. Gene then moved to Chelmsford Community Radio, first Sunday of the month, beginning 5 April 2015 and running until 2 August 2026: 137 editions on CCR, and 133 editions still in the listen-again Jukebox archive. The show has now ended.
