The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 3 September 2023
The September 2023 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and the Girlguiding Team exploring various activities and future plans. The main theme for the show was Girlguiding's global reach, with a focus on the World Centres. Maxine welcomed Gayel, a Girlguiding Leader from Essex North East, into the studio. Gayel shared her experiences from a trip to Sangam, the World Centre in India, where she participated in celebrations and observed photography training.
The programme also covered county news, including new archery instructors and details about a large guiding festival or camp for Scouts and Guides. This event featured activities such as clay pigeon shooting, air rifles, a survival zone, and campfire activities. The team discussed future planning meetings for Rainbows and Guides, and highlighted opportunities for girls aged 10-18 to participate in bespoke guiding experiences.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
