The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 5 March 2023
The March edition of The Gene Radio Show saw Maxine joined by Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers from across the county. These members shared their diverse experiences within Girlguiding. A significant focus of the programme was a massive Girlguiding sleepover, an event attended by an impressive 456 members. The show also explored various activities and events that took place in celebration of International Women's Day.
Listeners gained insight into specific guiding achievements, with discussions around the 50 years badge and a service badge. The girls also enthusiastically discussed their recent trips, sharing details of their adventures and what they learned from these experiences.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
