The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 6 November 2022
The November 2022 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with Guide Amber, focused on the busy guiding calendar. The team celebrated Parliament Week, discussing democracy and how the system works, alongside a general update on current activities and upcoming events for Girlguiding Essex North East.
The episode highlighted specific guiding activities, including an exclusive screening of the new Matilda movie for Brownies and Guides on December 10th and 11th. Girlguiding Essex North East members could apply for a free badge funded by Essex County Council, and there was news of the Anglia region's Winter Quest. Guides were encouraged to apply for a £300 grant for environmental projects and write letters to their MPs. The show also noted the recent renewal of the Girlguiding promise.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
