The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 7 August 2022

This August edition of The Gene Radio Show saw Maxine joined by girls, Jody and Amber, for a lively programme. The show covered a wide range of Girlguiding activities, from outdoor adventures and badge work to new roles within the organisation and community engagement. It highlighted the diverse opportunities available to Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers.

Listeners heard about units enjoying guide camp and the Geocaching interest badge for Guides. The Vlogging badge and the Pumpkin Spotting Challenge Pack 2022 were also discussed. Maxine celebrated over 50 years in guiding, and Sue was welcomed as the new County Commissioner for Girlguiding Essex North East. Willow from a Guide unit shared her experience at a graffiti workshop, and activities for UK Parliament Week were promoted.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
