The May 2022 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and the Girl Guiding team, including Thayer and Amber. The programme explored the many opportunities available in guiding, with a particular focus on new Unit Meeting Activities (UMAs) for all sections. Discussions highlighted the fun and varied activities girls can undertake, from outdoor challenges to creative badges, showcasing the breadth of the guiding programme. Listeners heard about the new Girl Guiding Anglia Outdoor Challenge and a badge involving mixing natural things.
Girlguiding UK's Chief Guide, Amanda Medler, joined the show to discuss the many opportunities in guiding. The team also introduced new digital UMAs for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, including 'Chatter Natter, Chatter Matter' for Guides. The show also mentioned the team visiting Amber's Guide unit.

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
