The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 3 April 2022

The April 2022 edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine and girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The programme, specifically for Girlguiding in Essex North East, explored themes including environmental awareness for Earth Day, World Party Day, and National Find a Rainbow Day. The team also highlighted engaging unit activities and badges available to members.

The show encouraged units to earn an Earth Day badge and discussed reusing and recycling clothes. A unit was praised for their cleanup efforts. Guides from a unit made cards with flowers, and another unit worked towards their relaxation and mindfulness badge through yoga. A unit of Guides recorded for the Platinum Jubilee. Kirstie Murphy, the first female pilot in the Red Arrows, shared her thoughts on Rainbow Day. A Halloween badge

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
