The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 7 November 2021

This November edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine and the Girlguiding team. The programme explored guiding activities and discussed what Girlguiding is. A central theme for the show was Parliament Week, including discussions about the Houses of Lords and Commons, and how young people can learn about politics.

Listeners were encouraged to send in clips about their passions and to participate in a unit activity to spell 'Parliament'. The team discussed a visit to the House of Lords and mentioned a special Diwali badge available from Girlguiding. There was also talk of a new badge initiative linked to Children in Need and a Strictly Come Dancing theme, encouraging Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, and volunteers to get involved.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
