The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 3 October 2021

The October edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine, joined in the studio by Amber and Georgia. The programme, aimed at leaders, members, and supporters of Girlguiding Essex North East, focused on guiding news and views. A key theme was the return to face-to-face guiding, with discussions about activities and what units have been doing.

The show highlighted the Brownie Space Badge, encouraging Brownies to explore it, and suggested older Guides and Rangers could link the Space Badge to International Women in Space. Girlguiding Anglia's recruitment for Kickstart positions, including Communications and Admin Assistants for 18-24 year olds, was also mentioned. Unit Meeting Activities (UMAs) were discussed, particularly for Parliament Week, with listeners encouraged to sign up. The programme also covered face-to-face training courses, a fun game with rainbow drop sweets, and concluded with a Halloween-themed quiz.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
