The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 5 September 2021
The September 2021 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, was bursting with energy from Girlguiding Essex North East. The programme highlighted the continued fun and activity across the county, with contributions from Brownies and Guides.
Listeners heard about Rainbows working towards their fruit and veg badge, and the excitement for Unit Meeting Activities. Chelmsford Girlguiding was preparing for Heritage events. Girlguiding Anglia's 50th birthday celebrations were still in full swing, with a special badge available. Volunteers, including Amber, shared their positive experiences at a Pride event, and there was a call for units to record features about guiding in their local area.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
