The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 1 August 2021
This August edition of The Gene Radio Show saw Maxine and the girls chat about what everyone had been doing in guiding and their plans for the summer break.
The show celebrated guiding milestones, including the 70th Anniversary of the first Gallyward Guides and a fantastic 50 years of service in guiding for an individual, who is also the county outdoor advisor. Listeners heard about the Girlguiding Anglia website, which hosts details for taking part in a birthday card design challenge and the 'Smashing Boundaries' cricket challenge. Other summer activities mentioned included a bucket and spade train ride and the Chelmsford carnival.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
