The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 6 June 2021

The June 2021 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine with girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The programme's main theme was the exciting return to face-to-face guiding activities across the county, alongside a heartfelt appreciation for all the volunteers who kept guiding going throughout the pandemic. The show also highlighted various county news and upcoming events.

Listeners heard about Guides working on their Photography badge, and another group learning animation for their Personal Brand badge. Girlguiding Anglia announced their Fiesta Fun event for their 50th birthday and participation in UK Parliament Week. Units were enjoying face-to-face outdoor meetings, with activities like building dens and camping out. The show also invited listeners to share their memories of the Queen's patronage of Girlguiding.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
