This edition of The Gene Radio Show, broadcast on 4th April 2021, was presented by Maxine with contributions from the Girl Guiding Team. The programme featured an Easter quiz, with questions and answers spread throughout. Discussions also centred on current guiding activities under restrictions, and Girlguiding initiatives for an equal world.
The show highlighted girls achieving their Bronze and Silver awards. An animation course for girls across the county was featured, with their work to be shown at the Women's Heritage Festival. Listeners were invited to share ideas for the future of guiding, including badge concepts.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
