The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 March 2021
The March edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine and girls from Girlguiding Essex North East. The programme celebrated International Women's Day.
It included a discussion about a speaker's experience joining the Guides and later giving handmade cushions to her Trefoil Guild. Listeners also heard about Joe Solter, a pioneering female pilot who inspired a young member, with their initial connection made through Girlguiding.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
