The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 1 November 2020
The November edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, focused on two significant Girlguiding events: the Under the Stars Festival and Parliament Week. The programme was recorded during the festival, featuring contributions from girls across Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. Also contributing were Guide and Brownie leader Kath, and Girlguiding Essex members Millie and Jess.
The Under the Stars Festival offered a range of activities, including building mini campsites, creating space station kits, making rockets, and exploring life on Mars. Participants also enjoyed pampering activities such as face packs and mocktails.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
