The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 4 October 2020
The October edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine in the studio with Izzy, Georgia, Jeff, Millie, and Amber from Girlguiding Essex North East. The team shared insights into their guiding activities, including their Ranges team activities and geocaching adventures. A unit meeting activity, the Clay Maker UMA, was a main theme, where the girls created Play-Doh items.
Specific guiding activities discussed included a Day of the Dead celebration, which culminated in a Beetle Drive. The team also talked about earning a Gene badge and a guiding badge related to pumpkins from a district challenge. Listeners were encouraged to visit the Girlguiding website and the Girlguiding Anglia website for new resources, safe space links, and volunteer opportunities. The programme also mentioned a virtual festival.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
