The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 6 September 2020

The September 2020 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The team discussed the challenges of producing the show remotely, as Girlguiding was not allowing face-to-face meetings at the time. A key theme of the programme was the blogging badge, presented as a way for members to share their experiences and connect with others.

The episode highlighted the blogging badge, suggesting it for Rainbows, Guides, and Rangers, and also mentioned a vlogging badge for Guides. Listeners were encouraged to tackle these badges and share their work. Girlguiding Anglia was central to discussions, including their website, the successful mid-Summer sleepover, and excitement for the upcoming Under the Stars festival.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
