The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 August 2020
The August 2020 edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine, joined by girls representing Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. This programme explored a range of summer guiding activities, highlighting how guiding continued to offer engagement and fun even when face-to-face meetings were not possible.
The team shared numerous fun ideas suitable for the season, with a central theme of staying active and engaged. Discussions covered popular summer bucket lists, encouraging girls to make the most of their time, and also included valuable personal camping tips, providing practical advice for outdoor adventures.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
