The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 June 2020
The June edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, focused on guiding from home during lockdown. Maxine welcomed Julie Craven, the County Commissioner for Essex North East, to discuss the new County Commissioner's Challenge. The programme also highlighted the tradition of displaying a guiding light in windows.
Listeners heard about the new County Commissioner's Challenge badge and the Girlguiding Anglia Challenge, including 'Rhymes, Riddles and Rambles'. A virtual camp was planned for a Gene ranging unit, and Maxine shared how she had met with her Brownies during lockdown. The episode also celebrated Volunteers Week.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
