The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 5 April 2020
The April 2020 edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine. The programme focused on providing ideas for activities and highlighted the importance of staying connected with guiding. The episode featured a statement from Judy Craven, County Commissioner, and a message from Tracy Foster, Girlguiding Chief Commissioner for Anglia. Listeners also heard about the postponement of the Girlguiding Anglia Rangers Festival and the Essex International Jamboree.
Maxine discussed various badge activities that could be done at home, including online trainings, safe space, interest badges for Rainbows, aspirations, human rights, guiding history, vlogging for Rangers, animal lover, film critic, and animator badges. Other activities mentioned included watching Girlguiding YouTube videos and a virtual event that Guides could join.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
