The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 February 2020
This February edition of The Gene Radio Show was a special World Thinking Day programme, presented by Maxine. The show featured girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, who joined together to celebrate this important annual event for Girlguiding members across the globe. Their participation brought a lively atmosphere to the studio.
During the programme, the team discussed the annual Thinking Day fund, highlighting the Australian Girl Guides fund as a particularly worthy cause for support. Izzy, a Girl Guide with over five years of experience, was a prominent voice in the studio. She brought her enthusiasm to the discussions, sharing her perspectives and experiences from her guiding journey.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
