The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 6 October 2019

The October 2019 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine and girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, focused on the Girlguiding campaign, Future Girl. The programme's main theme was the "Plastic Promise" initiative, encouraging members to take action against plastic pollution.

The show highlighted various Guiding activities, including a big event at a university and a sleepover. Brownies were involved in unit meeting activities, creating mobiles and jellyfish crafts related to the plastic promise. Listeners were encouraged to share their own plastic promises, with examples given by Karen and Vicki, who was praised for her interview. A unit was also planning a Macmillan coffee morning.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
