The June edition of The Gene Radio Show celebrated Volunteers Week, highlighting the vital role of volunteers within Girlguiding Essex North East. Maxine hosted the programme, which featured an energetic group of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, all keen to share their guiding experiences.
Among those interviewed were young leader Emily and Rainbow Kayla, who spoke about their enthusiasm for guiding and the activities they enjoy. The studio was filled with singing and excitement throughout the show, truly showcasing the vibrant and engaging world of Girlguiding.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
