The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 6 January 2019
The Gene Radio Show's January 2019 edition featured Maxine with Izzy and Georgia in the studio. They reflected on the past year in Guiding and celebrated New Year's. The main theme for Girlguiding Essex North East was looking ahead to the new programme, upcoming events, and recruitment across Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
The team highlighted badges including the Cricket Challenge, the upcycling badge for Guides, the entrepreneur badge, and Ranger badges, alongside the journey towards Gold and Queen's Guide awards. Discussions covered setting up new units, the need for adult volunteers, and the Girlguiding website. County news included a new syllabus launch and the 'Strategy 2020 plus' initiative. The importance of subs and Thinking Day were also mentioned.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
