The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 2 December 2018

The December edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, exploring the diverse opportunities available through Girlguiding. Girls shared their experiences from a special event at the Houses of Parliament, where they gained insight into the lives of MPs and Baronesses. Maxine also recounted her recent visit to the first Quebec Guides, highlighting the international reach of guiding.

Listeners heard about the "awareness and dementia" activity pack and badge, and the Queen's Guide Award. Girls discussed their favourite camping trips and the various activities they enjoy as Guides. Maxine described her visit to the Quebec Guides unit, run by Jen, and mentioned the tradition of selling Girl Scout cookies. The programme also touched on the role of network coordinators and the annual Santa Run.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
