The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 September 2018
The September edition of The Gene Radio Show saw Maxine and the Girl Guiding Team reflecting on a busy summer. The programme focused on the many experiences girls and leaders had during the holidays, highlighting the skills gained and the impact of Guiding. Discussions included leadership, the new Guiding programme, and a new initiative celebrating phenomenal women and girls.
Listeners heard about various Guiding adventures, including a trip to Camp America and Rachel's international experience in Denmark, exploring the city and its landmarks. The show highlighted the new Guiding programme and the availability of badges for activities, with resources downloadable from the Girlguiding website. An appeal was made for the Chelma Village Brownies.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
