Throughout the show, discussions explored various aspects of inclusion, such as considering roles for all genders and the positive message conveyed by proudly displaying rainbow flags. The team also engaged in conversations about historical and contemporary issues surrounding women's rights and the importance of voting, reflecting Girlguiding's dedication to empowering girls and young women.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
