The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 4 March 2018
The Gene Radio Show for March 2018 featured Maxine presenting, with a guest joining later. The programme celebrated World Thinking Day and explored its 2018 theme of Impact. It also highlighted Girlguiding's V-100 campaign, marking the centenary of women's suffrage and encouraging girls and young women to engage with democracy.
Maxine shared her experience judging Thinking Day activities at Springfield Guides, where she taught the UK Promise and learned the Sparks' promises. The show included contributions from Mary Pout, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding Anglia, and Julie Bettley, Chief Executive of Girlguiding. Girls were working on the Aviation badge, and a special V-100 commemorative badge was announced. Bernie, a member of Girlguiding Essex North East, also contributed to discussions about the suffrage movement.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
