The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 5 November 2017

The Gene Radio Show for November 2017 saw Maxine joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The main theme of the programme was Parliament Week, with discussions around its activities and how it relates to the history of women's suffrage and political participation.

The show highlighted Girlguiding's involvement in Parliament Week, including activities from the Parliament Week Pack suitable for all sections, from Rainbows to the Senior Section and Trefoil Guild. Amber helped explain the different guiding sections. Specific resources mentioned included a colouring sheet featuring the Girlguiding Anglia logo. The programme also promoted a Twitter chat, #GENAPW17, for Girlguiding Essex North East's Parliament Week activities.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
