The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 2 July 2017
The July edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, featured girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, including Amber and Vicky. The programme's main theme was summer camping tips, with listeners contributing their advice. The team also discussed various guiding activities and upcoming events.
The girls shared their guiding experiences, including water games with a Guide unit and a senior section unit being set up. They discussed working towards badges, such as the Queen's Guide, and mentioned Rainbows doing tent pitching and Brownies cooking. Favourite campsites like Guidewoods and Blackhand Farm were highlighted, along with general camp tips and recipes. The programme also covered Girlguiding's participation in pride events, including Norwich Pride, and mentioned the county diary for upcoming activities.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
