The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 4 June 2017

The June 2017 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with girls from the Girl Guiding Team, focused on activities across Girlguiding Essex North East. The show highlighted summer camps, volunteering opportunities, and the modernising of guiding programmes, including a look at STEM for girls. There was also a celebration in the studio. Listeners heard about various badges, including a challenge badge and the 'I'm in guiding' badge, and the push for #badgegoals.

Specific activities mentioned included clay pigeon shooting, a visit to Gallywood Guides, and an event with Jess from Guides. The programme covered county news, the Girlguiding Anglia Parliament Pack, the Rhythms Fund Day, and the first opportunity for Brownies to go away to camp, with tips for making a camp blanket.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
