The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 2 April 2017

The April 2017 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, featured girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. The programme explored a wide range of Girlguiding activities, from local unit events and challenge badges to fundraising efforts and larger regional gatherings. Listeners heard about the Gene Media Challenge badge and other badges earned through trails.

Specific events included an evening at Chelmsford Racecourse for Brownies, the Essex Jambri, and a mini-festival scheduled for August 2017. Julie Bentley, Chief Executive of Girlguiding, was a guest, and Louise, manager of the Anglia Region shop, was also featured. Units were busy with Mother's Day themes and fundraising, with one guide group visiting Tesco. The show also mentioned the Girlguiding Anglia website and the Guiding Essentials catalogue.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
