The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 5 March 2017
The March edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine and the Girlguiding Team, focused on World Thinking Day activities and celebrations. Special guest Veronica joined them in the studio to discuss the theme. The team also looked ahead to the upcoming Red Nose Day fundraising.
The show featured shout-outs for World Thinking Day activities from Emily Hamilton's unit, Rachel's Rangers near Liverpool, and Katherine from the 104th Nottingham Brownies. Jackie ran a badge-making meeting for Guides in Townsville, Northern Queensland. Other units made friendship bracelets, looked through their Rainbow books, and planned to cook pancakes. Rainbows went to India, and another unit visited Switzerland. Maxine also discussed the new uniform or 'guide wear'.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
