The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 4 December 2016
The Gene Radio Show's Christmas special edition on December 4th, 2016, was presented by Maxine. She was joined in the studio by six Springfield Guides and their leaders, celebrating the festive season. The programme focused on Christmas traditions and the importance of social action, a key theme in guiding.
This edition highlighted the work of the Clapton Brownies and gave a shout-out to the Springfield Guides for their social action efforts. Listeners were encouraged to check the Girlguiding Essex North East Facebook account for updates. A special feature included a message from Julie Bentley, the Chief Executive of Girlguiding, adding a significant voice to the Christmas celebrations.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
