The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 6 November 2016
This November edition of The Gene Radio Show features Maxine presenting a programme packed with voices from Girlguiding Essex North East. The main theme celebrates achievements, particularly reflecting on the Jack Petchey Awards from the previous month. The programme includes recordings of girls and leaders sharing their experiences and successes.
Maxine discusses attending the Jack Petchey Awards, which recognise personal achievement and unit support within Girlguiding Essex. Listeners hear from Lisa Starris of Second Friends and Guides and Tendering, and congratulations are extended to Claire on receiving an award. Jasmine from 14th College Guides shares her honour at being nominated by girls. The show also features girls from First Wivenhoe Guides, including Hannah and Maisie, and mentions the Essex24 event.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
