The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 4 September 2016
The Gene Radio Show, broadcast on 4th September 2016, featured Maxine with Charlie and Kate from Norfolk, a Brownie leader. The programme looked back at the Essex International Jamboree 2016, a joint Guiding and Scouting event. The team also discussed Charlie's recent trip to Sangam in India and upcoming Girlguiding events in London.
Listeners heard more about the Essex International Jamboree 2016 and Charlie shared her experiences from Sangam, one of the five Guiding world centres, where its 50th anniversary was celebrated. The episode also mentioned a visit from the new Chief Guide, Valerie LeValent, and highlighted upcoming events like a "use your voice" weekend in London, with live tweeting planned. Girls were encouraged to learn about international trips offered by Girlguiding.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
