The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 6 March 2016
The March 2016 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, celebrated Mother's Day. The programme explored the history and diverse traditions of Mother's Day around the world. A significant segment also focused on a "Clueless in Cambridge" adventure, sharing experiences from this exciting trip.
Girls from the Senior Section discussed their "Clueless in Cambridge" event, which included team challenges like guiding partners through a rope ladder and around cones. Charlie shared her experiences from the trip. The show also looked ahead to a "junior jam opportunity" for Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs, and Beavers at a joint Scout and Guide camp. Additionally, the Sangam 2016 group spoke about their upcoming trip to Sangam in August, with Sophie contributing a recorded piece.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
